Scope: New steel-framed extension to existing Homebase store

Challenge:
The project involved a large-scale steel frame extension with multiple offset members and complex bracing connections. Tight programme constraints required efficient coordination and designs that were immediately buildable.

Solution:
We agreed to issue the designs in stages to ensure the fabricator’s team could start on the designs as quickly as possible. Design solutions were issued within days of instruction and continuously throught the next few weeks of the program.

The scope included designs for both standard and complex connections, where we used 2D software for simpler joints and IDEA StatiCa for 3D visualisation of multi-member nodes and optimised and cost-effective solutions. This allowed the team to clearly see how steel members would interact and ensured feasibility of assembly before fabrication began.

Outcome:
Our fast and precise delivery enabled the fabricator to maintain their production schedule without delays. The detailed 3D visuals reduced uncertainty during erection and improved coordination on site, helping the contractor achieve a smooth installation process.
